There are frequent incidents of fires in motorhomes related to parking heaters. Not all of these are caused by installation errors. Sometimes, inattentively placed or fallen objects in front of the exhaust outlet can be responsible.
The exhaust temperature of a diesel parking heater is approximately 100-120°C. Another risk factor involves parking heaters with fresh air intake systems that draw air very close to the exhaust outlet.
Leaks can occur in the exhaust system connections, which may lead to increased CO (carbon monoxide) concentrations inside the vehicle. CO is odorless and initially causes headaches; at higher concentrations, it can lead to fainting or even death ("CO poisoning").
Therefore, commercially available CO detectors have become standard equipment for many campers. To provide an even higher level of safety, we now offer two new add-ons for our CALOR parking heaters:
CALOR ES1 - The Smart CO Detector
CALOR ES2 - The Intelligent Smoke Detector
Both safety sensors are connected via WiFi* to the smart control system of the parking heater. Besides alerting on a smartphone, they enable fully automated shutdown of the heater by creating a rule that triggers as soon as the sensor detects an unusually high concentration of CO or smoke.
We especially recommend using these devices when animals are left unattended inside the van, as they cannot turn off the heater themselves in case of danger.
*A WiFi hotspot is required, such as our SC 4G router. Any other common hotspot can also be used.
